*4 August - 2015 SOUTH DARFUR *A downpour has destroyed more than 100
houses in a camp for the displaced near Nyala, the capital of South Darfur,
on Sunday. A El Salam camp sheikh told the radio station that the rains
were accompanied by severe winds, that lasted for more than four hours. The
storm has destroyed houses and left the affected families without shelter.
In Kalma camp, torrential rains, also accompanied by strong winds,
destroyed four classrooms of a school in Square 2 on Sunday. They usually
accommodated about 400 students. Accumulated water now blocks the streets
and the general coordinator reported that several houses were also
destroyed. In addition, “Many children in the camp show signs of
malnutrition as they depended on the food distributed by the World Food
Programme,” the coordinator told Radio Dabanga

“The organisation stopped its food rations two months ago.” On Thursday,
Radio Dabanga reported that many of the more than 163,000 displaced people
in Kalma camp suffer from a shortage of food and poor sanitary provisions,
which worsened after latrines were flooded. In last week's news bulletin,
the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, however,
reported that two international aid organisations are disinfecting or
replacing the damaged household latrines. More downpours in Central Darfur last
week

destroyed 20 homes and 170 tents at the Hassahissa camp in Zalingei.
In May, Sudan's National Council for Civil Defence announced

the
evacuation of 114 out of 182 villages which may be hit by torrential rains
and floods to safe places, in anticipation of the rainy season this year.
Close to 257,000 people in Sudan had been affected by heavy rains and
flooding in late July 2014, according to the Sudanese aid commission HAC
and the Red Crescent Society. Blue Nile was the most affected state,
followed by Khartoum, North Darfur, River Nile and South Kordofan.
*Bushra mooted to succeed Sese in Darfur Regional Authority*

*4 August - 2015 EL FASHER *The Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM) led
by Bahar Idris Abu Garda has nominated Osman El Bushra as a replacement for
the chairmanship of Dr El Tijani Sese of the Darfur Regional Authority.
Osman El Bushra is the Minister of Health within the Authority (DRA).
Sharafeldin Mahmoud Mohamed Saleh, spokesman for the LJM, told Radio
Dabanga on Monday that El Bushra has been nominated because of what he
called “Sese’s failure in the implementation of the basic things by the
DRA, regarding the Doha Document [for Peace in Darfur, DDPD]”.
The other signatory to the Doha peace agreement, the Justice and Equality
Movement breakaway faction led by Bakhit Abdallah Abdelkarim (JEM-Sudan),
already approved the nomination of Bushra.
Following the signing of the peace document, the DRA was established in
December 2011 to play a central role in enhancing the coordination of all
post-conflict reconstruction activities in Darfur. Its projects include the
building of model villages and schools for people who have been displaced
by the 12-year-long conflict. Many displaced people, however, have rejected
such projects and refused to return, claiming

there is still no security in their home villages.
On 18 January, the LJM interim board announced the ousting of Sese as its
president. Conflicts within the leadership of the former rebel group
surfaced in the preceding two months. The then new LJM chairman Abu Garda
fiercely criticised the leadership regarding the postponement of security
arrangements and the failure to implement development projects in Darfur.
He also accused

Sese of fraud during his DRA chairmanship.
As a chairman, Sese still attended the opening of a model village in East
Darfur on 26 July, and has requested
