*AWEIL, August 4, 2015 [Gurtong]-*Civil Societies organizations in NBG,
comprising of the Women league, Youth league, Teachers Union, Traders
Union, government workers and students marched from the Freedom square to
UNMISS office where they handed over their petition to the UNMISS
coordinator.

Speaking on behalf of the demonstrators, the Chairman of the civil
society’s organizations Marko Kuol Kuol said that citizens of NBG are
concerned about the latest proposal which they say may negatively affect
the country.

“We the civil Society organizations in NBG stand here to express our
dissatisfaction to the ongoing peace proposal mediated by IGAD plus body.
We are marching today to show the world that we are not part of the
proposed peace which gives SPLM-IO 53% power sharing of greater Upper Nile,
33% of National government power sharing, co-existence of two independent
armies, reinstatement of Riek Machar as the 1st Vice president which gives
him an isolated 195 body guards and handing over security to foreign
powers, how safe is our country under these circumstances?” Kuol read the
drafted petition on behalf of other civil societies in NBG.

Demonstrators chanted and sung songs saying they need the ARUSHA agreement
but not IGAD mediated peace.

They say they demand a just and transparent peace deal which does not favor
any side. They displayed posters rejecting the responsibility of foreign
power to control the security system in South Sudan.

“We the civil Society organizations, we need a just and equal peace deal
especially the Arusha peace agreement. Like those of Pagan Amum, Deng Aloor
and the rest of detainees who came to join the SPLM leadership because of
the Arusha agreement, so this is the peace we need. We don’t want a peace
deal that favors one side …we don’t need it at all.” He added.

While returning from UNMISS office where they were received by UNMISS
coordinator Koliab Natahaba, they marched to the council of Ministers where
they handed over another petition to the Acting Caretaker Governor asking
him to present their views to the President of South Sudan, H.E Salva Kiir
Mayardit.
