*BOR, 28 January 2016 [Gurtong]*- The Commissioner of Twic East County Dau
Akoi Jurkuch in an interview with Gurtong on Thursday said that many
reports on killings and attempts to raid cattle have been reported in Bor.

On 18 January, the Commissioner said two men were killed by suspected Murle
at a camp where they had gone to cut grass.

“The two gentlemen were cutting grass in the bush but there were some goats
from the nearby camp. So they tried to push back the goats to the owners.
As they were returning, they fell into an ambush of the criminals. They
were both killed” explained the Commissioner.

On the 24th of January another 2 were killed when a group of eight went
hunting in Western Kongor Payam.

“They also fell into an ambush in which two of them were killed and 6 ran
away”, he said.
The suspects according to those who survived were identified as Murle.

On Thursday 27, while the State Governor of Jonglei, Col. Philip Aguer was
conducting a rally in Pawel of Kongor Payam there was an attempted cattle
raid by the Murle.

“The criminals were seen from a far and the army, police and community
youth were alert. They had already gone where the cattle were but after
being discovered they took off leaving behind the cattle.”

They raiders were however, not caught.

Governor Jurkuc is now urging the Governor of Boma State to establish a
traditional authority that will look into security issues in the rural
areas.

“We are trying to appeal to the Governor of Boma State because we are being
disturbed by criminals and these criminals are coming from the Murle area.”

“So my appeal to the Governor is for him to try to talk the administrators
and traditional authorities at least to prevent these criminal acts,” he
said.

He also said that one person was yesterday wounded at Pakou cattle camp and
is now recuperating in Bor civil hospital.
