By Agoth Abraham * AWEIL, 08 July 2016 [Gurtong]-* Lol State government has appealed for an urgent humanitarian intervention from international humanitarian organisations, national organisations, businessmen community and national government to support the Raja victims who were recently displaced from their homes and had their properties destroyed. In a statement extended to the media by the government spokesperson on the Thursday, it requests the above mentioned to respond to the deteriorating humanitarian condition in Wau. “Our local inhabitants of Raja who were recently affected by the attack from enemies on June 15th are seriously in need of shelter, medicines, food and non-food items in their respective lodging places.” Said Francis Buk. Buk further says the most affected victims of the incidents were the elderly people, children and lactating mothers who lack basic human needs daily. Though he couldn’t specify the statistics of the population under dire humanitarian needs, he still estimates the number to be ranging from two to three thousand in various places of Marial-baai, Nyinbuoli, Akuak-ayat, Akuak-ngap, Umora, Nyamlel and others suspected to be in other neighboring areas of Central Africa, Wau and Southern Darfur. The incident was reported to have killed about 5 guards of the former Governor of Lol State, Rizik Zakharia Hassan and State government vehicles were destroyed including infrastructures. Despite efforts from the host communities to help the displaced people with basic needs, the government spokesperson says still the demands were only limited to some individuals. “We have a huge number of people who fled to Marialbai on foot. They get some help from the government and the people there but they still need shelters, medicine and food,” he explained. He added that many people including members from the organized forces who remained in Raja are also facing shortage of food after the armed group looted all houses and government institutions.
