By James Deng Dimo *WAU, 08 July 2016 [Gurtong] -* The town Mayor of Wau town said that Thursdays’ shootings that were heard in Wau was not an attack from any group. Mayor Akol Akol Ajith said that the gunshots heard were from the military police who were clearing their area of deployment from any rebel group that maybe hiding in the area. “What happened today [Thursday] in Wau town in the southern part of Wau town really was a military deployment. Because we have agreed in our security committee meeting conducted recently that the military should move out from the areas where there are civilians. So they reached a place with thick bushes and were clearing it in case of any anti-government forces hiding there.” “I want to tell the civilians of Wau town as a Mayor of Wau town that I went to see these checkpoints. This happened at the checkpoint of Lokoloko and the checkpoint of Jebel Rabi the way to Bussehre and this is the first time we have moved the army from the areas near the town,” he said. The public was frightened by the sounds of gunshots with some thinking the attack that happened recently in the town is resuming again.
