The Doctors without Borders said the need comes following an
assessment of medical needs in the area.

“MSF decided to set up this free of cost clinic aimed at improving
access to primary healthcare for the population in the town.”

“We want to address the main diseases in the area, such as respiratory
tract infections or malaria. Those diseases are easy to cure as long
as the patient can seek timely medical care”, said Marie Cleret, MSF
head of mission in South Sudan.

Since fighting broke out in the area earlier this year, access to
health facilities has deteriorated after most of the medical staff
left the area for fear of violence making the availability of
medications and other medical supply limited.

Marie commended that the free of cost primary healthcare center will
be accessible to everybody seeking medical assistance in Yei and that
cases needing hospitalization will be referred to a nearby health
facility.

“We are really happy to announce the opening of this clinic and we
hope it will make a difference for the local population” says Marie.

MSF boss said the activities are initially planned for two months and
will be re-evaluated afterwards.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent,
medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to
people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and
exclusion from healthcare.

The humanitarian organization aids people based on need, irrespective
of race, religion, gender or political affiliation.
