SPLM-IO downplays defections by its members in Fashoda

FASHODA (15 Mar.)

The SPLM-IO faction allied to former first vice president Riek Machar has
downplayed recent defections by some of its members in Fashoda State.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, Morris Orach, the Information
Minister in the rebel-controlled area in Fashoda, said a group of eight
members led by Abdullah Kur and Gen. Morris decided to defect to the
incumbent First Vice President Taban Deng.

He pointed out that the group wanted its own personal interest. The rebel
official claimed that the defectors do not have any influence in Fashoda.
