A five-member peace negotiation team in Yei River state has travelled to
Kampala to hold talks with armed opposition groups in order to bring about
peace in the state.

Speaking to reporters before leaving to Kampala on Monday, Bishop Elias
Taban of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC) who is also the team
leader said they want to negotiate with the armed opposition groups in the
state.

Elias further said their team plans to resolve the ongoing conflict in the
state. “We want to thank God at this time that we are leaving Yei airstrip
to Kampala. This is our phase two mission for peace talks with the armed
groups,” said Taban. “We want to thank our president for declaring the
national dialogue and we believe that with power of Jesus Christ our
brothers and sisters who have taken up guns against the government will be
able to understand us that it is too much suffering for our people,” he
added.

In March 2017, Bishop Elias Taban with support from support from the
US-based organization His Voice Global signed a peace deal with an armed
group in Kampala.
