Over 50 thousands IDPs from Gogrial arrives in Abyei, says Minister

More than 50 thousand Internally Displaced Persons fleeing the recent
violence of Apuk and Aguok communities in Gogrial State have arrived
in Abyei, confirms Minister of Finance.

Malony Tong Ngor points out that the number is already affecting
services in their Administrative Area.

For the last two months the influx of IDPs from Gogrial has distressed
the “little services” of Abyei Administrative Area mostly health, says
the minister.

Tong explains that only Medicines Sans Frontiers is providing health
services in Agok and Abyei, but the two centres are also lacking drugs
and personnel.

The Minster appeals to humanitarian aid organizations and the national
Ministry of Health to quickly assist the needy IDPs and the local
population in Abyei.

Tong notes that the arrival of 50 thousand IDPs in the area means the
humanitarian situation in Abyei will worsen.

The minister cites bad roads due to the heavy rains as difficulty
hindering for traders from bring goods to Abyei Area.
