WAU, 31 August 2017 [Gurtong] – Ajak said in May and April, Wau
teaching hospital treated more than 70 children of the ages 6 months
to 5 years mainly from the from nearby States and Wau itself.

She said last months, 2 children died of malnutrition.

“We are admitting children from all nearby States. Last month, we had
like 78 cases treated and being discharged to complete their treatment
outside but this month the levels are a bit lower because you can see
some beds are now empty, usually, you can see these beds are almost
full
and up to now we have only 65 admissions,” said Ajak.

She said most malnutrition cases are caused by lack of feeding,
including poor management by their mothers in breastfeeding.

She said most cases the hospital is now receiving are through poor
feeding of children due to lack of food nutrition..

Ajak said UNICEF and other State organizations are now providing Wau
teaching hospital with nutritious foods including peanut, milk and
biscuits.

She said Wau State has 8 to 10 centres meant to deal with the
malnutrition cases.

Fia Munsur a woman whose child of 6 years has been admitted at the
hospital said her child lacks enough food.
“My child developed malnutrition due to lack of food, the hunger is
now facing the whole country, the condition of people is now
worsening, to get food and feed the children now has become very
difficult and this is why our children are now suffering,” she said.

Most families can only afford one meal a day.
