The simple case is integer PCM, where bits per sample equals  
precision. But there is also floating-point PCM (32 bps, 25  
precision), ADPCM (4 bps, 13-or-so precision), FLAC (varying bps,  
8/16/24 precision), and Vorbis. That's why I think the inconsistency  
actually is a non-zero bps value for FLAC.
