OK, there's also libebur128 which is included in almost all distros.
I guess whoever implements it will decide what's best..

Adding it to the stats effect would make sense to me.
What's the difference between stat and stats in your understanding? I see that stats is also per-channel and seems to do more complex analyses but don't really grasp the characteristic difference.

The legend? It looks like we have few chars to play with.
"EBU R 128"? "Loudness"?

  IIRC, EBU R 128 requires 4× upsampling ...
