Ok, good, if this lib works well with SoX then it would be the way to go.

IIRC, each SoX effect can request that it is passed separate streams for each 
channel (and almost all effects do this) or a single stream of data with 
multi-channel interleaved (and this is what the stat effect does).   So when I 
wanted to add some more stuff to stat and for the new stuff to be per channel, 
Chris agreed that a new effect for multi-channel stats was needed.

I’d be precise as room allows since there are other loudness standards e.g. 
Replay Gain, Apple’s Sound Check, etc.
