IIRC, each SoX effect can request that it is passed separate streams for each channel (and almost all effects do this) or a single stream of data with multi-channel interleaved (and this is what the stat effect does). So when I wanted to add some more stuff to stat and for the new stuff to be per channel, Chris agreed that a new effect for multi-channel stats was needed. > The legend?
