Admiral Candance Bedru turned off the main viewer in her office and sat
back. To say that this was a day of surprises was an understatement. The
press would interpret Admiral Lasiter's non-response to the question
regarding t'Llhweiir and Brennan as an admission, of that she had little
doubt.

She was gratified, at least, that Renaud had handled himself well, despite
the provocation. In preparation for the upcoming announcement of
Explorer's launch, she had called the 'Fleet Press Office and asked for a
representative who would work directly with her until the launch had
actually taken place. That way, she would not have to continuously bring
various press officers up-to-speed. That officer was scheduled to arrive
at 1230 hours--one half hour before the new command crew was to arrive, so
she had time to do some additional prepration.

At precisely 1200 hours, her access signalled that a priority, secured
message had arrived. She gave her security clearance and began to read.

"Mon Dieu," she muttered as she read.

Her voice trembled as she instructed the computer to replay the message.
The contents did not change. Bedru took a steadying breath. "Close," she
whispered. She stared at the Star Fleet Seal that appeared on the screen,
but she did not see it.

Something dragged her insistently from wherever she had gone. A buzzing.

Dully, she blinked until her eyes and mind could focus on the sound,
which grew in its intensity.

"Enter," she finally said.

(ooc: somebody wanna stop by?)
