> Nabru remained silent during their interchange. She knew the place where
> Carrhae was headed first-hand. Trouble was all too easy to find there.
> As far as she was concerned, they could not leave too soon.
>
> Matt turned to Nabru. "Shall we?" he asked.
"Before we go, may I ask a question, Admiral?"
(response--assuming yes)
"Is there anything you can tell us about Admiral t'Llhweiir's mission that
might explain what's going on?"
(response)
Nabru looked at Lasiter a moment, but she kept her thoughts to herself.
Finally, she said, "Thank you, Sir," and indicated to Brennan that she was
ready to leave.
> They headed back to his quarters where he quickly changed. THe uniform
> simply wouldn't do. He changed into comfortable blue jeans with a blood red
> buttoned-down shirt. From a hidden drawer in his dresser he removed a
> weapon, manufactured by his brother-in-law's company, and checked the
> charge. It was full, of course. Matt rarely had cause to use the sidearm.
> He attached the holster to his right hip, scooped up a few extra charge
> packs, and then slipped an antique leather bomber jacket on to hide the
> weapon.
While he changed, Nabru, again as the male security officer, left to make
a quick visit to her quarters. While she could reform into any organic
shape of similar size and bulk, she could not morf a weapon. Nor would
Star Fleet issue be a good idea. She considered her options and decided
on a Klingon disruptor and d'k tahg. After concealing them, she rushed
back to Brennan's quarters.
> (skipping a bit)

> Matt and Nabru followed Ael through the Rihannsu ship, down into the lower

>
> Matt had already slid into the flight control station on the very small
> bridge. The ship was designed to be run by one, and had a max crew

> cabin was very small. "Not at all," he said, scanning the script there. It
> was all well marked.
>
> "The ship is designed to be operated by plankton if need be," Ael told them.
>
> "I won't take that personally," matt told her.
>
> A corner of her mouth tilted just a bit. "It need not be said," she told
> them, "that should untoward things happen, I will be forced to report this
> ship stolen."
>
> "It need not be said," Matthew assured her. That was the route least likely
> to lead to an interstellar incident leading toward war.
>
> "I'll wish you luck, then, and the Elements' favor," she said.
Nabru had taken the co-pilot's seat and had been pretending to study the
controls to give the pair some semblance of privacy. She looked up when
the ambassador seemed to be speaking to her and replied in unaccented
Rihannsu, <May the Elements keep you safe.>
> Ael turned to Matthew, who had stood to see her off. "Be careful, Healer
> Brennan," she said, a bit more formally than was indicated here. "A man of
> your loyalty, in either empire, is a rarity." She frowned somewhat
> wistfully. <[I have not yet met the man, after all," she said, "who would
> be willing to commit treason for me.]>
>
> Matt gently put his arms on her shoulders and pulled her into a hug. It had
> to be done gently, lest he risk his life in doing so. <[Yes you have,]> he
> told her. <[And he wonders if it is not his own misfortune that his heart
> lies elsewhere.]>
>
> Ael returned the hug, then turned and headed up the ladder without another
> word. Matt waited for her to reseal the hatches before he retook the FCO
> seat. "Ready?" he asked Nabru.
"Ready."
As the ship left dock, she said with a laugh, "I wonder how Admiral Renaud
will react when he learns that you have slipped out."
