Joe took the lead. He explained the situation at customs, and
summarized the past several meetings with the Bajorans. Lasiter did not all
that pleased as the story was told. When the story was finished Joe ended
with...
"Well, Admiral Lasiter, we are at a stumbling block at this
point. We think that Allso, the courier, is itching to talk. That he knows
that the only way for him not to be hung out to dry is to cooperate with us.
However, his handlers at the embassy will never allow that. We need some
help to get his cooperation, Sir."
"Now just how do we, or I, fit into this?" Lasiter asked a matter of
factly.
"Well, that is the difficult part. In order to get Mr. Allso's
cooperation he needs to waive diplomatic immunity. Something that his
handlers will not allow, nor will the Ambassador. We were hoping that if
you could talk to the Bajoran Government to get them to release him into our
custody and remove his immunity. If we get him to talk, and we think he
really wants to, we can wrap this up quickly." Joe responded, to the point.
Lasiter just stared at the three for a moment.... Then, "Commander Dais
what are your thoughts on this matter? Is it worth the diplomatic trouble
it will cause to get this Allso fellow to cooperate with you? "
Not waiting for an answer, Lasiter continued with some questions for K'Tael.
"Commander K'Tael, is this case related to any others that you are
currently working on? Will solving this case present evidence or gain
witnesses that will close those other cases? If I can secure this Allso
fellow can you gaurantee me a conviction in this or other cases."
Now he waited to see just how they would respond.
