"Thank you, sirrr. I'm glad you underrrstand what this kind of issue can
do to the people of Cait. The Kzinti werrre one thing, but these things...
The fight like demons and I'm saying that as a Mikan. If they werrre to
invade a planet, humans and humanoids would have no chance. It's taken
weeks to trrrain SpecOps trrroops up to a level wherrre they stand a
chance. Civilians..." She just shook her head.

> "What do you think of Captain Black? How much do you trust him? How
>quickly is he picking up on the nuances of Felinid war tactics? How well is
>he getting along with his Klingon Counterpart?" Lasiter asked.

"Oh, they'rrre getting along splendidly afterrr some forrrced quality time
togetherrr," she said with a sly smile. "As to trrrust, I trrrust both of
them completely. They arrre both honorrrable officerrrs. Polath has
picked up on the felinid tactics fasterrr, but he is a field officerrr with
yearrrs of special operrrations experrrience. He's also a Klingon, to whom
fighting comes naturrrally. Black has been a little slowerrr, just due to
fighting inexperrrience, but he's coming along. Forrr his job, he doesn't
need combat tactics knowledge so much as a strrrategic plan, and he did
well enough. The convoy was attacked exactly as he'd anticipated, and
although we didn't expect the second wave, we'rrre all learrrning about
this new enemy. That's one thing we have to find out was how the
prrrisonerrs managed to get a message out. It's possible that they sent a
subspace message that no one picked up, but that seems unlikely. The
otherrr two things we have to investiagate arrre whetherrr they have a
communications system we don't underrrstand, orrr that they arrre
telepathic in some way. Howeverrr, I think that's unlikely. Caitians
arrre almost completely psi-null. I don't know if therrre is any kind of
genetic manipulation that could incrrrease Caitian psychic abilities to the
point of telepathy beyond the touch-rrrequirred kind. Telekinesis is
verrry possible, and I know of verrry strrrong telekinetics. But telepathy
has neverrr been known in ourrr people."

"Do you have anything you need me to do sirrr? I'm not surrre when I'll be
back, given the rrrecent developments herrre."
