General A'amon always felt an enormous pride when he looked upon his fleet. Even here, looking at only a quarter of the fleet, he felt enormous hope for the future of the Venasian people. The ships, gleaming silver, blue, and black depending on their function, hung like jewels in space. Developed in bases away from occupied space, they were built on the latest aqua-organic technology, and quite beautiful to watch in action.
He turned from his contemplation of the fleet when he heard someone enter the room. "Yes, Lieutenant?" he asked in Venasian.
"The latest reports from the colonies, General," the young Venasian male replied, handing him a data unit, "And the person you sent for has arrived."
"Please send her in."
The Lieutenant tilted his head and left. A moment later, the visitor entered and stood without preemptive, waiting to hear what he had to say.
"Selara D'amondra." A'amon acknowledged. He picked up a dataunit on his desk. "Accomplished doctor and physician, mercenary, terrorist, and arms dealer, with the most extensive smuggling network in the alpha quadrant since the Hutt family. Wanted in a dozen systems for crimes ranging from blackmail to murder."
"I know who I am, General," she said flatly, "Why did you invite me here? To arrest me? Because you know that I would be out of any jail in time to have dinner with my lover."
"I've heard about your lover. Interesting choice. And no, not to arrest you. I have need of your services."
Selara looked out the window at the ships. "And what would someone with such a formidable force behind him need of my services?"
"In any new government, certain steps must be taken to appease scrutiny from other governments. However, in reality, we all know that certain steps must also be taken to ensure that the goals of the new government are..."
"I've been through government changes before, A'amon," she interrupted him, "You need certain people to disappear quietly, and you need certain people planted in key places without other governments getting suspicious."
A dry smile touched his lips. "Among other things."
"What benefit would I get out of it? I have a fairly lucrative business already."
"Ah, I know your character, Selara D'amondra. I know how treacherous you can be, and how your loyalty only goes so far as the bank account. So it would be pointless to offer you a pardon or a position. However, I do have a sizeable discretionary fund at my disposal and you will be paid handsomely. And, we will, of course, have access to many new worlds - ones you might find appealing for your own businesses. We can work out other benefits as we go along."
"I imagine we will be able to work something out."
