Another world is found. In the often ignored and overlooked office suite that housed the Galactic Exploration Command came a report. A detailed report consisting of over 2000 pages of narrative and supporting data, and it was only the first part of what would be the complete report.
A world was found that was approximately 17% larger than Terra, and it supported one of the most beautiful seas imaginable. It was not quite as breath taking as Pacifica was, but given a few hundred years it very well could be. This new world, code named Planet Vul-0469, was one of many that already existed in depths of the Federation databases. It had not been visited in at least 420 years, when a Vulcan survey craft orbited it. According to that last record the planet supported a thriving industrial civilization that was just about to discover nuclear power. However, according to the new survey there was a meteor storm some 360 years ago that compounded the problems of globalwarming and industrial pollution. The result was that most surface life was killed off. The seas were hit hard, but not as hard as the land based life. Nature taking it's course had cleaned up much of the pollution and returned the planet to a state that was definately habitable. Very promising for some kind of colonization. The surveying craft, the USS Potemkin had requested a formal science ship to take over the survey, but in the mean time, would continue with it survey. While Galactic Exploration eagerly sent a science ship, the USS Esteban, they started the process of determining just who had legal claim to the planet.... TBC...
