The president nodded. "You stay, Admiral. But," he said quickly, "you do
*nothing*
in a vaccuum. Any command level decisions - especially those involving
large
reassignments of materiel or personnel, have to be signed off on by your
second in comand any myself. Quietly, of course. But on this, I will not
negotiate. I will trust you, but you help me trust you."

sir, that
we revisit this discussion once again when the bond is broken."
"Oh, of course," the president assured him. "This is only for the duration
of the
crisis."
Deciding that this was enough to bring to the President at one time, Lasiter
chose to close his part of the meeting.
"Thank you, Mr. President. Thank you for your time, and for your
indulgence." Lasiter said to the true Command in Chief.
