As she came out of anesthesia, she saw Ceran and a Nurse. Both were checking her vitals.....
"Mom!" Ceran cried delightedly when Serana opened her eyes.
Serana smiled slowly. "Hello, water bug. How are you?"
"Good. You were out for a while, but I think they're going to let you go back to your quarters."
"That's a relief." Serana noticed there seemed to be some commotion. "What's going on out there?"
Ceran shrugged. "There was an accident or something. Some injured people."
Serana dropped interest. There was always some crisis or another at a space station. "All right. Help me up. Let's see how I look."
The nurse helped Serana up and brought a mirror over. After examining herself critically for a few minutes - while Ceran hovered nearby, anxious to hear her mother's final judgement - Serana smiled. "Well, Dr. Carlisle is good, if not irritating. The seams are a little rough, but they'll smooth over just fine." Serana touched her face. "It's nice to look normal again... and be able to taste again."
"No honey, you hold it like this," the nurse corrected Ceran gently, setting the scanner straight in the girl's hand. To Serana she said, "Your vitals are fine, Doctor. Here are Dr. Carlisle's post-op orders for the next few weeks. You'll have to come in to finish work on your leg, but otherwise you're released to home care. I'll have security escort you back to your quarters."
Serana frowned slightly. Security, and not another nurse? Strange. "What's going on here?"
"there was an explosion in Engineering. We've got casualties, although the worst of them have already been through. We can't spare any nurses at this point, Doctor."
Ceran held up the scanner and told her mother quite seriously, "Your vitals are normal, Doctor."
Serana laughed. "Thank you, Doctor." To the nurse she said, "I'll be reachable at my quarters."
"Yes Doctor."
The security guard held the chair, and Serana got in it. Soon he was wheeling her out of the trauma zone and back to her temporary quarters on the station...
