"I sent a copy of my report over after I arrived home...you have a very
dangerous situation in that combat area you assigned me to investigate. We
have a rogue Admiral Van Der Loo who is pretty much ordering and allowing
our own people to be abused, tortured and even killed by those we're
supposed to be helping. I have included statements by those who have been in
the field. Also VanDerLoo would not allow me to make any direct contact home
until I promised him I'd support him in obtaining more resources for his
campaign."
Lasiter thought for a moment. He seemed a bit out of sorts, as if he was having a
difficult time keeping his mind on the matter at hand. However, he was managing well
enough to keep the conversation going...
"What evidence, other than the statements, do you have of torture and abuse or this
Admiral's allowing mistreatment of Starfleet personnel and civilians? I don't want to
take action on a few statements. We need hard evidence. That way this situation does
not turn into a pissing contest of one being's word against anothers. Especially if
this involves any planetary governmental forces. It will look like we are playing
sides, and with Starfleet's reputation being what it is these days I have my doubts
that we will be very successful in addressing the problem. Do you understand,
Captain?"
