"I think you will find that the Ferengi are not what you think, Ambassador
Valtris.  We are different from all of the other powers on the Diplomatic
Council.  We are not a geographic unit based on military might or diplomatic
union. Instead, we are brought together through economics.  That does not
mean that we are not interested in galactic politics ... just that we look
at it differently. Our strengths and interests are just different."

Valtris was amazed by how well Ambassador Rilg stood his ground.  She had
not intended her comments as an insul, but it was clear that he was not
happy with what she said.  He had in fact defende his people, and done so
quite well.  "My apologies, Ambassador.  My statements were not meant to be
derogatory, but just to express my good impression of your involvement at
the meeting, particularly considering the fact that you are a new member to
the group."

Rilg could have pressed his point further, but he really did not have the
desire to pick a fight with Valtris.  He understood that she was trying to
be complimentary.  "I am just doing my job, Ambassador. I can only hope that
I am able to represent my people as well as you the Klingon Empire."

Valtris nodded with an embarrassed smile.  "Thank you, Ambassador.  I am
sure that you will do so with little trouble."

"If there is nothing else, I should get back to the embassy.  We are still
getting things set up since my arrival.  I hope you will understand."

"Of course, Ambassador.  It takes a while to settle into Spacedock.  There
is a lot going on here that can keep you distracted.  I will look forward to
working with you in the future."

"And I you, Ambassador," responded the Ferengi.  With that he departed from the Council Chambers and returned to the Ferengi Embassy
