Jaime laughed and straddled the table's last empty stool. "Hey," she said. "You guys are meeting kinda early, aren't you?"
James smiled glad to see his sister. One of the other men seated at the table sneered. It was clear that he was not the most comfortable with James' little sister as a tag-along. His name was Richard. The third person already at the table seem unphased by her arrival. It was not so much that he was not happy to see Jaime, but Jacob was a little more interested in his pastry at the moment.
"We decided to try something new," replied Richard curtly. "It seemed prudent," he added a bit cryptically. It was clear to everyone that he was not only stuffy, but also in charge.
James just nodded in response. "We are still waiting for Sarah and Chase, though." Jaime didn't say anything. It was apparent, though, that her feelings for Richard were mutual.
The waiter brought a plate with two cheese danish and a double size coffee. From the raising steam, the beverage was obviously as hot as it was black.
"Hungry, Sis?" James asked with a surprised laugh.
"Hmm," she replied as she chomped down on one of the sweet pastries. "Want some?" she asked.
James nodded and snagged one of the pastries and popped into his mouth with a laugh.
At the same time a couple came over to the table, and it was clear that they were a couple. Chase and Sara were dressed a lot like Jaime, though their T-shirts said "Humanity Rulez!". They plopped down in the last two seats.
"Sorry we're late!" chirrped Sara, who seemed almost too chipper for the morng session.
Chase nodded. "You should have seen the people at the tube hub. It was packed."
Richard, once again annoyed, " Well, at least we are all here. I think we should get down to business."
The others nodded in responses. They did not find Richard all that pleasent to be around, but he was the group leader, so they listened.
He turned to James. "How are things going with the pamphlets?"
James pulled out an artist case and slipped out a piece of paper that he spread out in front of everyone. "This is the design that I came up with."
The pamplet highlighted the important achievement that Earth and its inhabitants had accomplished over the centuries. It also pointed out how Earth's development had been held back since it's involvement in the Federation and other races.
