"I should think, Ambassador Bedru," Ael said with only a small hint of
indignation on the human's part, "that your status would preclude the need for
your introduction."  There were few people that Ael held in such esteem - and
particularly few humans - as she did Candance Bedru.

Ael bowed her head respectfully.  "I welcome your addition, Admiral.  I trust you will be a welcomed voice of reason in this tower of Babel."

Bedru used their interaction to study the Cardassian ambassador and to examine
her own less than friendly reaction.  She had lived through two wars against
the Cardassians, the first one as Ops officer on the Defiant, and then years
later as captain of the Ark Royal.  She had seen friends and colleagues die, Se
had nearly died herself in the final battle that had resulted in the taking of
Cardassia Prime and the defeat of the Dominion.

Had she allowed residue animosity to creep into her reaction?  No, she thought
immediately.  Those wars were years old.  She had grieved for her friends, and
she had moved on.  No, her reaction was to the woman herself.  There was
something that had Bedru's intuition on alert.

For now, though, she buried her reaction.  She had no reason to distrust Damesh,
but that did not mean that she would trust her, either.

Bedru had glanced towards the door at the sound of its opening.  With a couple
of steps, she enlarged the scope of the gathering to include the Ferengi,
despite him.  "Ambassador Rilg," she said, "If I may introduce myself.  I am
Candance Bedru.  I contacted your office earlier but am glad for this
opportunity to meet you now."

Ael nodded to the Ferengi but kept her silence.  Ferengi's were cute, in a way that domesticated thrai were cute.  She had to resist the attempt to reach out and stroke the one's ears.  The impulse was easy to resist, however.  AFter all, there needed to be no appearance of familiarity between herself and any Ferengi.
The Ferengi nodded.  "It is a pleasure to meet you, Admiral.  I am sure that the Council will benefit from your presence," he said.  It was clear that he was a little uncomfortable.  He made his way over to his chair and took a seat.  It was not meant to be rude, but just to get a little more comfortable.

The doors parted once more to allow entry to two more members of the Council.  Ambassador Watson let the way, and he was followed by the new Venasian representative.  She seemed like an average Venasian, except that she had Borg implants that were evident.
