"And yourself sir? If you don't mind my asking.  Where do your people hail from, and how did you come up through the service?"

Jared was broght back from his thoughts with Colin's questions.  "My apologies.  I grew up on Earth.  My family was not what you would consider traditional stock for Starfleet.  Even though the Federation is not a money-based culture, they still held onto their roots as an Old Money family from Newport, which was once called the City by the Sea and was a summer retreat for many of the wealthiest families in the old United States.  They did not quite approve of my choice, which is probably how I ended up in the legal services.  My background was primarily station security."  It was clear that Jackson did not respect his family's snobbish nature.

Colin smiled, and even chuckled softly, but sympathetically.  "My compliments to you, sir, on being able to break from the family tradition.  In truth, Starfleet was not my first choice.  When I was younger, I saw myself becoming a priest.  But as the years wore on and no other children were forthcoming, well, I simply could not let 600 years of captaining genetics die with my stuborness.  Seminary will always be there, even long after Starfleet has finished with me."

Jared raised an eyebrow at that comment.  It was rare to find priests of any religion in Starfleet, and here on the Centurian he had found one man who was one, and another who had aspired to be one.  The priesthood was a demanding vocation that could easily be compared with being a CO in terms of leadership skills and dedication.

"And the Church would be very lucky to have you.  So what does the Centurian do when she is not taxiing olf fogies such as myself around?"

(Colin?)
