> "And so you are," he told her with a hint of a crooked smile. "My house is
> your house."

Carrhae laughed. "I'll remember to tell Samuel that should my disappearance be
discovered."

(*snip*)

> He shook his head. "I can call Mary Basco and get an update," he told her.
> "There is no reason you should worry yourself about this. It's just my

"Dr. Basco is very competent, but you are missed." She let him interpret that
as he might, then she changed the subject.

> "What of you? You have not had any difficulties here?" That question was

> He shook his head. "None," he told her. "Many know where I live, few feel

Carrhae nodded. At least no sword-wielding headhunter was likely to dark his
door and interrupt their time together.

Carrhae set her glass down on the end table near the bottle. She relaxed
against him and closed her eyes. Her breath released in a faint sigh as the
last of day's stress left her body.

<I know.> But she also knew that they both had a sense of responsibility that
was too deeply inbred to deny it for long. For a short time, though...

She turned her face to his. <Come to me. I need you as I have needed no
other.>
