Bedru stopped for a moment to let those words sink in for a moment.
"In the eyes of the Council, the Federation and Star Fleet have committed to an
investigation of the matter. If it is determined that the information is
inaccurate, our options are simpler. If it is correct, and the Federation
decides not to participate further, we need to find a way to address this to
the Council. Otherwise, we lose credibility that we may never retrieve."
"Then the significance of getting the Ferengi information and the note that the
Ambassador received authenticated. We can't make a good decision on faulty
information. However, if this information is all that we are left with when decision
time comes, then it is up to the Ambassador to find the Federation a face saving way
out and you to help him."
