"Oh, yes! That makes sense ... send in another group to where an other team dissapeared," said Knucklebiter. "Don't you people ever watch your own ancient entertainments vids, where some one disapears and you keep sending in more people for the bad thing to eat or kill?"
Aravis eyed her bear-like teammate with surprise. "Well, none of us joined Starfleet to be safe, Mr. Knucklebiter. There is nothing to say that one of these phenomena won't appear in Earth orbit. We aren't going to find out what happened if we don't take some chances. If you would be more comfortable, you could always work with the team that stays and studies the lab."
"Ma'am, if you check my record, I have enough commendations to break the back of a Snedian mule, but I suggest we all proceed cautiously and get some basic groundwork done before splitting up our resources. Pulling a 'Kirk' only works some of the time."
"While we need to be cautious, Mr. Knucklebiter, we were assigned to this mission to figure out what is going on and try and find the two missing officers. There is no indication that there is any danger out there so sending out a team is not beyond the realm of possibilities." Aravis hoped the ursoid's comments did not mean that he would make figuring out the puzzle a challenge.
Hilda was not comfortable with the rise in hostility among the group. It was not a common occurance among Starfleet personnel. "While I agree we must move with caution, Lieutenant, I do not think there would be much harm in investigating the space as long as we take precautions. The phenomenon is not currently there. We could always back off if it were to return."
The huge ursiod shrugged. "You are in charge, Ma'am, but I'm pretty sure the other party did not see it coming either."
Hilda glanced toward Aravis to see how she would react. While there was some risk involved, she thought it was nominal. It was a risk worth taking if it could lead to a safe recovery for the missing scientists.
"Then it has been decided," said Aravis. "Mr. Knucklebiter, you and Lts Gorm and K'stilk will join Commander McTiernan in checking out the lab where the missing scientists were working. I want you folks to pull together any information that might relate to the phenomenon."
(response?)
Aravis then turned to Dr. Ingolsdottir. "Doctor, you can join me on one of the Runabouts. I would like to get a close up analysis of the area to see if our sensors can pick up anything while we are up close and person. Commander McTiernan, could you spare Ms. Pweretza to assist us?
(response?)
