The Runabout Nile lurched left and right, up and down as it tried to avoid
the shots coming from the shuttle ghosting it.  Unfortunately, it wasn't
quite enough.  Slowly and surely, the shields were being worn down until
they failed.  Finally, one of the shots struck an unshielded nacelle and the
Runabout crashed down to the planet.

When it was obvious the shields were going down, David put out a SOS to
anyone within range, "HELP NEEDED! RUNABOUT NILE BEING ATTACKED BY HOSTILE
SHIP."

"Nile, this is Mars Control.  Our shuttles should be coming into range."

For those with enough free time to look out the windows, a group of four small fighters came into view and quickly caught up to the area.  The Peregrine-shuttle quickly pulled of its pursuit and fled.

K'Tael could not believe how quickly things had gone bad.  This should not
have happened. He looked over recent events in his mind as he tried to get
the Runabout under control.  No matter what he did, the ship continue to
plummet toward the surface of the red planet.

And then everything went black as the Nile slammed into the surface.  There was the sound of metal screeching and glass breaking.

And then there was silence.
