>"At this point it could go either way, sir. Even today, brain injuries
are among the most dangerous."

>"I would request you send regular updates to Admirals Lasiter and Renaud."

>The Vulcan woman nodded. "Of course," she replied in a tone that said
she would follow whatever requests he might have.

>"Security is going to be a major concern. The people who attacked our
shuttle may try to get to him so keep him as isolated as you can. >My
Assistant Commander Wilson will work to get more seurity for this area. Can
I see him?"

>"He is right around the corner. That is where I was taking you." The
two of them arrived at a private room that had K'Tael lying on
a >traditional biobed. The "clamshell" was closed over him to make more
intensive readings and help regulate his bio-rythms.

"Thank you." He stood near the bed and asked quietly, "Can he hear me? Do
you think touching his hand could get a Healthy response?'

The Vulcan nodded. "It has long been supported by research that patients in comas can
hear and feel those around them. It may even help them to recover faster. Feel free
to speak with him and do whatever you would like, Captain. I can give you some
privacy, if you would like."
