Watson sat down-as he was new to the Diplomatic corp, his higher-ups would want an update on his first-day activities.
He outlined the discussion he'd had and the concerns over the former Cardassian Ambassador-he also stated that this was in the investigatory stages only and authentication of the scroll was being done by Intel with results expected in the morning. He was also coordinating with Admiral Bedru. Meeting with Lasiter was also noted. Thenhe mentioned the issue of the Ramesar gov't wanting to send a Representative. He indicated he'd pass the request to the Council in general but that unless there were concerns from higher-up or Bedru at their meeting in the morning,he was prepared to support the proposition based on the reports he'd received that the power transfer was done and the population was settled. A few moments later, Watson received a note back from the Secretary of State, who was considered by many to be a bit of a workaholic. That expalained why he was still at work at such a late hour. The response was supportive, but also provided Watson with some advice. Ambassador, I am glad to see that you are settling into your new post. It seems that the Council has wasted no time in throwing you into the thick of things. I have no doubt that you will ably represent the Federation in all these matters. You have been selected from among a number of your peers for this position because you clearly have the ability to do the work. While the Department of State appreciates your willingness to report your activities to us, you can feel free to act independently in your role as representative to the Diplomatic Council. That means you have been entrusted with the ability to make decisions that you believe the Montgomery administaration would approve. The Deparment also supports your willingness to work so closely with Admiral Candace Bedru of Starfleet. Her experience and background will prove invaluable in providing you with information and the viewpoint of Starfleet on many issues. At the same time, remember that Starfleet's goals and interests are not always going to be exactly the same as the Department of State. Her appointment as liaison lies outside the realm of civilian government. (OOC: My goal is not to cause fights with that last paragraph, but to point out that disagreement is to be expected and understandable. Even in the Bush Administration Rummy and Powell have their disagreements.) Yours in peace, Winston Merrick Secretary of State United Federation of Planets _______________________________________________ Spacedock mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://scifi-rpgs.com/mailman/listinfo/spacedock_scifi-rpgs.com
