He switches topics again... "I'm not sure if you knew Commander M'Rrenn, my long time Chief of Staff.  Well, he was killed in the sniper attack at Sam's funeral.  I am taking his body to his family in a few days.  My leave will officially start once the services are over on Cait...."

Jared could not believe the horrors that his friend had faced in the past few weeks. "I am very sorry, Sam.  I did not know M'Rrenn, but considering the fact that he was your assistant, I am sure that he was a wonderful officer and person."

"His death is the rason that I am still here working.  The relationship that he and I enjoyed was as close to perfection as can be managed in the reality of life.  We have several irons in the fire, and if he were here I know that I could have taken some time to deal with my own... well you know.  With him gone, I don't have that sense of confidence that I can just let things go.  Even when I take some time, I can't afford to be out of touch.  The timing of things is just so... well you know."

Samuel was being surprisingly open, for him at least.  It had been a long time since he was this open about feelings so personal.  Not since he and his wife separated, so many years ago.  This was a big moment for the old man.

"If you follow that path of logic, Sam, you are never going to take the time that you need.  You have a number of talented people around you like Lorin Renaud and Carrhae t'lthweiir.  I can understand you wanting to be around for the state visit from General A'amon, but you need to start delegating some of the less important things so you can take the time you need."

"I intend to.  The General's visit does play into the decision to hold off.  Geez, I can't wait until that's over."

"My understanding is that he will  be here in the next couple of days.  How long is he expected to remain?"

"I don't know.  Anywhere from a few days to a week.  Possibly more.  Either way it won't bother me much.  After my meeting with him, I'm gone.  Since I am one of the first meetings, I shouldn't be delayed too much. "

Jared was glad to hear the response.  His friend definitley needed to get away from things.  "I am sure things will go smoothly on that front."

"How long are you planning to take for your vacation?"
