TO: Commander Joanna Kirk FROM: Admiral Lorin Renaud RE: Captain Boulay
Commander,
Due to the sensitivity of Captain Boulay's current mission and the obvious dangers involved we will not send you out to Mars Station at this time. However you are requested to establish secure comm line contact to check on his condition and assess his ability to function as a result of his past mental/emotional situation. If you deem him to be not stable, report this immediately to myself.
Admiral Renaud
She could not say that she did not have her own concerns about how recent events would affect David's recovery, she was not sure whether she could diagnose him well over subspace in a conversation. So much of her evaluation relied in part on her observation of body language. That is always limited over comm lines since usually, just the person's upper torso and head are showing. They are also somewhat limited in their ability to move by where they are sitting to make the call. Her empathic abilities would be a help, but would not replace what she could have gotten in person. Apparently, there was no way around it, though considering the security situation.
She quickly sent a reply message to the Admiral indicating that she would inform him if she thought that David was considered unstable. As his CO, he did have the right to know about that. As a family member, she assumed he would want more. She would make sure to inform him either way.

"Could you please open up a line to Mars Command for me. I would like to speak with Commander Boulay if he is available."
