said to all assembled. "Kalina and Y'Toi have done a wonderful job of
organizing this evening's gathering, and I thank them both for making this
possible."
Kalina nodded and gave her cousin a hug. Y'Toi simply bowed in response.
"I am honored that each of you would share this time with Matthew and me,"
Carrhae continued. "Now, please, the food and drink awaits your pleasure."

As they sat, Matthew reflexively placed a hand on his bride's - how great that title sounded - knee, inviting her hand into his. "You are absolutely beautiful," he whispered into her ear. "Even more beautiful than the scenery which, itself, is stunning."

He reached for his glass and lifted it high. "If I may," he said, loudly enough to catch everyone's attention, but not so loudly as to be jarring, "I would like to be the first to propose a toast. I know it's tradition for the best man to be the first, but I so rarely have occasion to upstage my good friend Samuel that I wanted to jump in here quickly." He smiled to Samuel. "Life has taught me that the only thing better than good friends, is a great wife. Today, I am blessed to be surrounded by the best of friends, and to be married to a woman so far above my station, I little deserve to share a meal with her, let alone share my life with her. Yet she has honored me in this way and for that, Carrhae, I thank you. I would ask, however, that you keep in mind the ancient Irish proverb that one should enter a marriage with both eyes open. And then keep one of them closed ever more." He smiled and leaned to kiss her. "To Carrhae," he said. "And to all of those of you who have come to share this glorious moment with us."
