The newcomer nodded his head in acceptance.  It made no difference. "You can
call me Adam.  Some colleagues and I  thought it was time to sit down and
have a little chat with some of  the department heads on the  station, and you
seemed like the obvious  choice since you are so different from your colleagues."

Scans of the intruder indicated nothing amazing about him.  Adam was a
simple human.  The sensors did detect some sort of lotion on his skin  that would
likely protect him from an acid attack as he had described.  He  appeared to be
armed only with a phaser.  He carried no other  equipment besides a simple
tricorder.

{What difference?  Species-wise? Reputation-wise? I would like a brief
explanation of your criteria,} asked the Commander, hopefully stalling his intruder
some.

Adam studied the Horta for a moment before responding.  "Let's just  say that
your unique physiology brings you to our special attention.  Your  kind does
not really belong at an Earth installation so talking to you seemed  like it
would make a clearer statement than talking to, say, Counselor Kirk."

{Oh, an "Earth Firster' or some other myopic group that believes they are the 'Chosen' or whatever.}
"Not so much 'Chosen' as this is our system and it should be reserved for Earthers."

Meanwhile outside the office, a light began to blink on Celine LaLune-Ares'
workstation.  It quickly caught her notice since she was looking right at  it.
It was a alarm from Commander Shevab.

Celine was not really sure how to take the alarm. What reason would  the
Chief have for sending her an alarm?  He had a visitor, but could that be
it?  She turned and made his way over to his office. The door  was closed,
which was rare.  Few engineers closed their office doors  because they spent so
little time in their offices.  She pressed the opening mechanism and heard the
buzz as the system failed.  That was not good.

She rang the chime.

Inside the office...

Adam shook his phaser at the door.  "I would suggest you get rid of  whoever
that is.  This phaser is set to kill, and it can take care of  whomever is at
the door before either of you can do anything, Commander."

One of the Horta's cilcia extended and touched the comm button, {Denied. Please resume your work on the simulations of trans delticphases on the new Bradsson systems.} hoping she would catch the protocol reference amidst the vaporware jargon.
For a moment, Celine considered how weird the last couple of seconds had been with the alert and the response to her chime.  That changed when she realized what he had said.

<ooc: Being that I am a bit week on things Engineering, is there a specific message in Shevab's comment or just a general sos?>
