The door to the office clanged open with the traditional Klingon sound
effects to revel an older Klingon gentleman. He was about 6'5, had light
blue eyes and a sqarthy complection. Large amounts of gray hair could be
found in his hair, which matched his simple moustache and goatee. His
cranium had a very detailed formation on it. "Mr. Eldin, please come into my
office. My understanding is that you are doing some research on the Dominion
War," he started as he turned and walked back toward the center of his
office. "Please take a seat," he continued as he indicated the settee.
Chase made his way over to the chair that Koomah had indicated and sat
down. "That is correct, sir. I appreciate your willingness to take time
out of your busy schedule to help me with this."
The Klingon cultural attache smiled. "That is what my job is, Mr. Eldin.
Let me help you in whatever manner you need."
"I guess we could start with the type of relationship the Klingons had with
the major powers before the war started."
"I am sure that you will find that our perspective is not all that
different from most peoples. The Klingon-Cardassian War had caused a lot
of problems in the Quadrant. Our alliance with the Federation had been
strained beyond breaking and most of the major powers were looking inward
to protecting themselves from the chaos that resulted."
"From my own experiences, I have found that everyone's perspectives are a
little different." Chase leaned down to his carryall while he was talking
and pulled out a small personal PADD. "Do you mind if I take some notes
while we talk?"
"Of course, Mr. Eldin. It would be hard to cite this conversation in your
dissertation if you do not," replied the Klingon with a friendly smile.
"Where would you like to begin?"
Chase was glad. It was going to make things a lot easier to remember things
if he could keep notes as they went along. "Perhaps we should start in the
beginning. How did the Klingons get drawn into the war?"
"As I am sure you have already found, the Klingon Empire was already deeply
involved in a war with the Cardassians. The Cardassians were basically
crippled, and, to a large extent, that is why they were so willing to open
their borders to the Dominion. The war had severly harmed our alliance. In
a way, we both owe the Dominion War for reuniting the Klingons and the
Federation. Without it, there is some question as to whether we would have
rebuilt the peace that existed between our two peoples."
