>Lasiter seemed sincere in his statement. Either he was a good liar, he was

A'amon gave the Venasian equivalent of a shrug. "There was the strong
implication that our scientists purposely added the lapizine result to the
report in order to discredit the Federation survey."
>
>"I see. I'll be sure to inquire just what prompted them to say that. Now,
>General, if you will excuse my curiosity. Just what occured between the
>Venasians and the Ramesar that would cause the reaction we saw from their
>Emissary?"

"The Venasians and Ramesar have a history, Admiral," A'amon said, "It goes
back several hundred of your Earth years. Luckily, we stumbled upon the
Ramesar during a deep-space exploration, and after that initial meeting -
which was unpleasant - we each retired to our section of the galaxy and
refrained from bothering each other. Indeed, this is the first encounter we
have had with them since except for a few incidental squirmishes along trade
routes."

"I hope that they show more restraint and respect during their stay here. They
are applying for membership to the Diplomatic Council, and I certainly hope
that they don't prove to me a disruption. If I may, General, I would like to
call on you or a member of your staff from time to time to get advice on how to
deal with them. Your people seem to have a good sense about the Ramesar..."

Lasiter actually did want their advice, but he also wanted to see how A'amon
would react to the request. That woudl prove valuable too.....
