>After a long flight from Spacedock to Rear Admiral Van Der Loo's

>not an incident, per se, there was a minor delay. Station Operations kept

to

>barely containing his annoyance with the surprise arrival.

>Joanna could easily sense Van Der Loo's annoyance, but said little.
>Considering the way he was carrying himself, she did not think that the
>Admiral or David needed her assistance to figure that out.

David maintained an expressionless face.

Like the others, Jared clearly recognized Van Der Loo's state of mind. He
had to admit that he could care less. Van Der Loo had his chance to talk
via comm lines, but chose now. He made his bed ... now he was going to have
to
sleep in it.

>"Welcome to Starbase 54. Your arrival is quite a surprise....", Van Der
> Loo said to the group.

David assumed an at-ease position, hands clasped behind his back. He still
maintained a stoneface but inside he wanted to beat the hell out of
Vanderloo

Jared smiled. "Thank you for greeting us so quickly, Mr. Van Der Loo.
After our talk yesterday, I thought it might be prudent to visit your
station. You left me with a number of unanswered questions. I thought had
not other
alternative to look into things myself."

Van Der Loo bristled as the use of "mister". It is the way to address
junior officers in lieu of rank. Most definitely *not* the way to address an
admiral of any flavor. The slight did not go unnoticed.

"Greeting you, was the least I could do. I hope you find answers to the
questions that you have. Whether you like them or not. Mr. Abrams will be
your
liaison while you are here on the station.", he said looking at a particular
LCDR that was with him.

"Good luck, *Admiral*."

Jared was almost amused at the verbal warfare going on between Van Der Loo
and himself. Somehow, it seemed like a good way to start things off. He
glanced toward Abrams and nodded. "I was hoping that we might begin our
investigating by sitting down with you and going over some details. As CO of
this
sector, you have a number of resources coordinated here for you that could
help
us, particularly since everything has to go across your desk for approval
before being sent on to SFC."

"If I only had the time. Meeting you and your party here is delaying an
intelligence briefing. Mr. Abrams will get you on the schedule.", answered Van
Der Loo. They were getting the impression that cooperation was his top
priority.
