Hi, all,

Based on some of the responses, I am going to look into touching base with
the Borderlands about the possibility. Once I know more, I can share it
here. In fact, we would be able to continue using this list for the game no
matter what we do.

Aaron,

Interesting idea. I wouldn't mind seeing it attach to borderlands, if
enough of SPD's and enough of BL's folks agree. I'm not sure if the BL
council will go for it, but it certainly woulnd't hurt to ask.

Hi, all,

I was approached by one of our potential players about the possibility of
rolling Spacedock into the BorderLands gaming group. It was not something
that I would have thought of myself, but it would be an option for easing
the process of recruiting players as they have a large pool of existing
players as well as being a good size to attract other potential players.

It would definitely affect some aspects of the game in that the BorderLand
games are all set up to be set in the Delta Quadrant on the other side of
a stable wormhole. That would mean a major shift in location, and (as you
can imagine) timeline. The games mix the powers of the Federation, an
offeshoot called the DFA, the Romulans, and a recently started Klingon colony
that is soon to be founded. I would expect that we would have no trouble
maintaining our Federation ties, allowing for a new Space Station McKinley to
be a Federation outpost. I suspect that we could bring along any and all
of our existing characters with some tweaking.

I am guessing that we would end up sacrificing the SFHQ aspect of the
game, which would have been tough for me to lead since I never played that
aspect, even though I read through the content. I am guessing the Diplomatic
Council would also fade away, too.

Joining would require us to conform a bit with some of the formality of
doing reports for the overarching BL organization, but that would be done by
the stations CO and XO, a shared GMship. The trouble in that would be that
the CO and XO also play the station CO and XO, which would present a
challenge for Lisa and Pete who are the current people in those positions.
Outside of doing a monthly report, we would have to formalize our posting
style
to conform with the existing BL formats. That is not really a major
shift. Randy and Lisa could speak to this as well since they also play in BL.
You can find some more information about the group as a whole at its
website: http://www.startrekborderlands.com/.

Anyway, it sounded like an intriguing possibility, but I did not want to
follow up with anything unless people thought it would be worth it. Does
this sound like a possibility? I can understand if people would rather stick
with things as an independent group, but joining would speak to my biggest
concern as being a GM ... a need to seriously fill out our crew ranks. I
am actually fine with coming up with the storylines.

So, how do people feel about this as a possibility?

Hi, all,

I have been sort of thinking this over the last few days since Chris
emailed me. He had actually let me know about it a day or so earlier,
mentioning the possibility of taking on the GMing responsibilities. I am just
not
sure that we can sustain Spacedock with the small set of players we currently
have. From what I can see, we actually just have Randye, Randy, Pete,
Chris, and myself who were doing fairly regular posting. There was also Deb
and Lisa who were doing some posting on a smaller scale. I just don't know
that we could keep a game going with that few players.

As a result, I think Spacedock will slip back into retirement.

I do know that some of you have found new homes on the Kitty Hawk thanks
to Randye and through the BorderLands game set. I know that means you will
get to keep gaming on, which is what is most important. I am glad that I
will be able to keep playing with most of you since I have been doing so
since around 1994!

I know I will miss Spacedock, but I have too much on my plate right now to
take on the primary responsibility for the game, particularly since it
would require a good deal of recruiting.

Sorry,
AJ

Tonight I am the bearer of bad news. I am stepping down as GM of
Spacedock. I have found that I just can't keep my head in the game, and I
think that
all of you fine gamers and story tellers deserve more than I can give. I
am sorry to have let you down. Game on.

Best Regards,
Chris
