I really hope that this is not RedHat's official stand on this. If this project forks, RedHat will lose a valuable upstream resource for implementing new features into their Satellite server product. I could easily see the Oracle side sputtering and dying out sometime down the road as the PostgreSQL side thrives. Redhat would be well advised to take into account what the community has been and is calling for and look to at least start pushing the Spacewalk project toward PostgreSQL. I work for a fairly large RedHat customer and while this is a community driven project, myself and several of our Linux admins are anxiously awating the day when Spacewalk is on PostgreSQL. Again, Oracle is a cash cow and we are striving to get off of it as much as possible.

Right, supporting multiple DBMSes is *hard* and expensive in developer time, even when you design it in from the beginning, which did not happen here. After watching this for a year or two I've become convinced that spacewalk will never expend the effort needed to make that happen. So I'm afraid the above is probably correct: the current development plan ensures that spacewalk will be Oracle-only forever. Or, if enough people are annoyed about it, there might be a Postgres-only fork. regards, tom lane _______________________________________________ Spacewalk-devel mailing list [email protected] https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/spacewalk-devel -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This e-mail and any attachments may contain confidential material for the sole use of the intended recipient.
