I remember I saw something like this - I'm running into the 255 character
kernel options line limit

I tried even more than 1024 :-) and it works.
Regarding the other issue - I must have checked it wrong.

some older versions of RHEL's kernel couldn't handle beyond 256. Newer
handle 1024 or more. No doubt we fixed on page in 2009 and missed the
other :)
