That was it.  I assumed that spacewalk-repo-sync used the yum.conf
configuration (which is configured for our proxy).  Apparently, I
needed to have the HTTP_PROXY environment variable set in my script as
well.  I have done so, and all my issues have cleaned right up.

No problem at all.  On our system I found that clicking 'sync repo' in the
webui didn't pick up the proxy settings that were set from /etc/profile.d, so
I just replaced spacewalk-repo-sync with a wrapper shell script.  I did end up
with a bit of a tangle of ownership in /var/satellite though, after mistakenly
running it as root, rather than apache, which I assume is how it runs from the
webui.  As a result, a later rhnpush got a bit upset.
