Thank you for the reply.  That was very helpful.  I did find a up2date file 
that I had not changed the FQDN in, and as soon as I changed it, the updates 
work using HTTPS.

Except the URL should be HTTPS. Everything in Spacewalk works over HTTPS. If 
your setup is not working, I would check the usual suspects of FQDN everywhere 
and time synchronisation. SSL fails if the time is out of sync between server 
and client.

Your original email also shows a Fatal error in Python on the client. Have you 
checked /var/log/up2date to see what the Python backtrace shows?
