Well, it's not really a limitation since you can still do whatever you want. The size of the rule and description strings is a convention that we've used which keeps the reports neat + tidy. It was requested that lint output tell when rules are outside of the convention, so that's why it's reported when you run --lint. But non-convention-biding rules aren't disabled or anything.
