'it's not needed in order to use mirrored zones AFAIK'

that's a good question. AFAIK, when mirroring a DNSBL, you do have to give it a
different zone name (e.g. "dnsbl.mylocal.net" instead of "dnsbl.spambl.org").
Can a DNSBL be mirrored locally using the same zone name, and then the local
resolver/named/dnscache server be set to use the local server for that zone
instead of the "spambl.org" NS?

I do know that there's at least 1 case where that system cannot be used for a
local mirror. That's when a network or ISP makes a local mirror of a DNSBL
(such as ja.net and hea.net did with MAPS RBL+). then there's a local mirror of
the DNSBL called "dnsbl.ja.net" or whatever, which shoudl be used instead of
"dnsbl.maps.com" or whatever.
