Perhaps my biggest objection to SPF is the dishonest way it is marketed as an anti-spam tool
Marketed by whom? http://spf.pobox.com focuses heavily on the anti-forgery aspects.
"SPF fights email address forgery and makes it easier to identify spams, worms, and viruses when domain owners designate sending mail servers in DNS..."
You may want to look at the "What SPF Is Not" section at http://spf.pobox.com/intro.html
it is nothing more than a weak anti-joe-job tool.
Well, whether it's weak or not is debatable - the length of this thread proves that - but the project's own site states that its goal is to stop joe-jobs.
