Right. Therefore, now is the best time to encourage phone manufacturers to make them capable of SMTP-AUTH: *before* SMTP-capable phones become widespread.

I won't put words in Chris' mouth, but it seemed to me his point *wasn't about SMS* - rather, it seemed to be that, since phones' capabilities are constantly changing, now would be a logical time to add *useful* features like SMTP-AUTH.
