Hello! I've seen similar behaviour on Yahoo, where I will have a problem on my mail server, which causes a few bounces, but then service returns to normal, but then roughly a *week* later, my list mail stops and I find that I have been 'suspended' because of those week-old bounces, even though there were no new ones. Very weird.
