Thanks for saying that better than I did. There are many things that annoy me in email (top-posting with full quotes [of PGP signatures!], over-long signatures) but they're not spam indicators one way or the other.
I suspect somewhere there's a spammer lurking on-list, developing a 100% RFC-compliant tool.
